We The Peepers

Almost overnight it became Fall here. Trees have started to change color quite dramatically this past week. We decided to spend a little time today just driving around the area and admiring them. We swung by Hooper Pond and Lake Auburn as well as just tooling about.

Of course we stopped at some yard sales too. We also found a cemetery that had some Keiths as occupants. I'll be changing my Facebook pic soon.

Turner Classic Mainstreet

 

Carrie noticed that the public library in Turner was having a book sale today, so we decided that was what we would do for our day off. When we arrived in town we noticed the sides of the main street were packed with people. They were getting ready for a parade. We barely managed to get in the general area of the library before all available parking was gone. The sale was in the basement of the library itself, and very well attended. We both got several books, and one of my purchases was another boy's adventure novel from the 30s.

 

After we left the building we realized leaving wasn't going to happen soon, so we went across the street to check out the cemetery. A few headstones had artwork, most of which featured roses. There were also some that had fancy shapes like these two. While we were here, the parade started.

 

 They had horses, tractors, classic cars, fire engines, and hookers.

Dead Reckoning

We decided we wanted to go to the Montsweag Flea Market today. I checked for nearby Post Offices and found one before Montsweag, in Woolwich, and one after in Wiscasset. But in checking the maps, I noticed a place called "Ancient Cemetery" that I thought we should go check out.

We did a couple of errands in the morning, then headed out. We took the pictures of the two Post Offices, we stopped at the Montsweag Flea Market (where I got about 40 different postcards, most for ten cents each), and found the Ancient Cemetery pretty easily.

There were a lot of interesting headstones for as few graves as the place had. The best was this one with the creepy eye at the top and the winged cherub.

We slowly made our way back home after checking out a couple of shops, and still found time for some stops before we headed for Bombay Mahal in Brunswick for supper.
