You say you want a resolution

 Carrie and I do like making little road trips and I usually take a bunch of pictures during them. Often I will get shots of Carrie and sometimes a shot or two of myself, but almost never do I take a photo of the two of us together. This year I have determined that I am going to change that and take at least one picture of us every month. Even if we don't take a road trip.

So the first of these was taken on a trip down to Portland. We made a stop at Trader Joe's and then were too early to go into Casablanca Comics. We wandered around a little, killing time, looking at architecture and icicles and a Japanese mailbox.

I used up a little of my credit with the comic shop on some Torpedo hardcovers that were on sale at five bucks each.

Afterward we went to a bookstore and found some ERB books I didn't have. I used the last of our credit with that store and spent some cash as well to pick up these four books. I hope we can go back soon with more trade goods and see what else they have.

Funny Thing . . .

 We checked out the Portland Comic Expo for the first time. It was held in the Exposition Building, a big roomy place, but not a heck of a lot was filling it. MECAF was more impressive.

There were a few people wandering around in costume, including some vendors. We didn't feel like waiting around until 3:00 to see the costume contest though.

Carrie went to Hellboy and back.

 

He followed me home. Can I keep him?

Carriage Me Away

Last week was pretty much the end of peak foliage season locally. We were a little afraid that Acadia National Park, being further north, might be well past its peak for our planned visit this past Monday. It was cold there, but there was still plenty of color!

We had a book from the library about Acadia's carriage roads and the picturesque bridges with various hiking loops described. We chose one that sounded like it had nice views, three bridges and a waterfall. The gatehouse by the parking area gave us hope for good foliage.

 

It was a crisp, clear, cold day. Very cold..

 There were a lot of evergreens, and a lot of trees overall, growing along the roads and hiding the long range vistas, but we could look up at a beautiful clear blue sky with the sun giving the leaves a stained glass appearance.

 The splotches of red seen on the glimpses of Bald Mountain are blueberry bushes.

 The first bridge was the best, Waterfall bridge.

 Not much water at this time of year, so I got one shot from on top of the waterfall.

When we got tired of looking up, we could enjoy color on the ground.

 But we really didn't get tired of looking up.

 The last bridge was the smallest.

  And finally, some of those glimpses of the vistas we got.

Some Light Reading

Saturday was Maine Open Lighthouse Day. We have taken advantage of this event every year since it started. A large number of Maine lighthouses are opened to the public for this day that you can not normally go into. This year we went to Dyce Head Light in Castine.

The lighthouse exterior would have been more interesting with a natural finish and the views were pleasant, but the stairs were quite wonderful.

 We checked out the waterfront by the lighthouse and the waterfront in Castine itself. Castine is the home of the Maine Maritime Academy, but, except for one other point of interest, is has little there.

The other point is the country's oldest continuous use post office.

We, of course, stopped at yard sales and flea markets during our excursion. I got Tarzan and comics and a Tarzan comic.

A new addition to my Tarzan collection.

 We went to Casablanca Comics in Portland, Gamebox in Topsham, and Zimmies in Lewiston. I gave out copies of Teebo to the shop staff and was pleased to be remembered. Along the way we stopped at a bunch of yard sales and flea markets, finding a few interesting items here and there. We also found a few things just plain happening.
